Joseph Albert Hitz

Joseph Albert Hitz was born on June 30, 1908, in Brooklyn, New York, to Caroline "Carrie" Breckle, age 37, and Joseph L. Hitz, age 39. He was raised and educated in Brooklyn and was a graduate of the Pratt Institute.

J. Albert married Miss Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Chester Winfield Cole of 42 Gates Ave., Windham, CT. on October 9, 1937. The ceremony was performed in the Congregational Church, Windham, by the Rev. Edward S. Smiley.

At the time, he was associated with the real estate firm of Carston, Linnekin and Wilson. For a couple of years the couple lived in Brooklyn before moving to Rye. In Rye they resided at 131 Purchase Street and he was a manager of a real estate company in Larchmont, NY.

Joseph enlisted December 28, 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a seaman 1/c stationed with the personnel and training command Naval Repair Base in New Orleans, LA.. He was honorably discharged November 20, 1945. See Navy Muster Rolls

After the war, J. Albert and Elizabeth moved to her home town of Windham. James would start a career with the Equitable Life Assurance Co. of Hartford, CT . He was employed by the Equitable Life Assurance Co. tor 30 years before retiring.

J. Albert Hitz, 66, died Saturday November 8, 1974 in Windham Community Memorial Hospital.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Mrs. Elizabeth Cole Hitz; two brothers, Clinton B. Hitz of Floral Park, N.Y., and Russell C. Hitz of Cape Porpoise, Maine; and a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Hendrickson of Nutley, N.J.

The funeral was held in Windham Congregational Church.
