Joseph Trimarchi

Joseph Trimarchi was born on May 10, 1923, in Mamaroneck, New York, to Lucia Finocchiaro and Antonio Trimarchi. He had three brothers (James Trimarchi) and four sisters and locally his family lived at 20 Harrison Ave, Harrison, NY. He graduated Harrison High School in 1941 and before the war was working at Hammarlund Mfg. Co. 460 W 34th St., N.Y.C.

Joseph enlisted June 30,1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His service number was 8122163 and he served as a radioman aboard the USS Cumberland Sound AV -17. (SEE MUSTER ROLLS)

USS Cumberland Sound (AV-17) was a Kenneth Whiting-class seaplane tender that served the United States Navy during and immediately after World War II. She was launched on February 23, 1944, and commissioned on August 21, 1944. Cumberland Sound arrived at Ulithi in January 1945, where she conducted search patrols and supported seaplane operations through most of the final year of the war. On August 28, 1945, she was among the first U.S. ships to enter Tokyo Bay to establish a seadrome and was present during the formal surrender ceremony on September 2, 1945.

Joseph was honorably discharged December 18,1945 . He would join the naval reserves in April 1947 and be recalled for active duty during the Korean War.
Trimarchi To Get Degree
Joseph Trimarchi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Trimarchi, 20 Harrison Avenue, Harrison, will be graduated from Tri-State College, Angola, Ind., on Thursday, with the degree of Bachelor of Science in radio engineering. While in Tri-State, Mr. Trimarchi was an active member of Phi Kappa, national social fraternity for Catholic students, and he served in the capacities of vice president and secretary. He was elected to membership in Tau Sigma Eta, scholastic honor society for students of Engineering, in March. He also participated actively in the Radio Engineering Society.

He married Marilyn Ann Miller on February 18, 1950, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They had two children during their marriage.

Joseph retired as an electrical engineer with ITT Aerospace Optical. During his career, he worked on a variety of significant projects in both space exploration and national security. He traveled the world with his wife Miriam, having been retired longer than he worked for a living.

Joseph was a native of New York, a former resident of Fort Wayne, IN, Bonita Springs, FL and Myrtle Beach, SC, finally having made North Augusta, GA his home, following the passing of his wife, Miriam Jeffords Trimarchi.

Graveside Services for Mr. Joe Trimarchi, 94, who entered into rest July 19, 2017, will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock in Pineview Memorial Gardens with Veterans Honors. Rev. Sam Davis officiating.

At the time of his death, survivors included a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Javier Correra, El Paso, TX; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve Trimarchi, El Paso, TX, William and Tanya Jeffords, North Augusta, SC; a sister, Millie Whiting, Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother, Hank Trimarchi, Harrison, NY; five grandchildren, Brandon, Theodore, Dashawn, Ileana and William.
