Kenneth L. de Forest

Kenneth L. de Forest was born March 12, 1897, in Brooklyn to William Marion de Forest and the former Frances Louise Wilson. Kenneth was a graduate of the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler in the Bronx.

He served as Lieutenant in the Navy during WWI. Later as an officer attached to the Black Arrow of the merchant marine.

Kenneth married Emily Bulkley of Rye in 1920 and they would live at live at 448 Forest Avenue. and they were members of Christ Episcopal Church.

Between the two world wars, he was surveyor with the now-defunct Lawyers Title and Trust Co. in White Plains for 10 years.

He again served in the Navy during World II

Lieut. Kenneth L. deForest, U. S. Navy, now home on leave, has seen plenty of action since entering the service over a year ago. For a time he served in the Atlantic and later was a commanding officer on convoys to the South Pacific and the Aleutian Islands. Lieut. deForest is enthusiastic over a devastating weapon the U. S. Army is bringing into play against the Japs which is steadily turning the tide of battle. He is now stationed in SanDiego, Calif. Lieut. deForest and Mrs deForest, the former Emily Bulkley live at 448 Forest Avenue.
RYE, NEW YORK FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1943

Kenneth retired as a commander in the Naval Reserve in 1946.

For 50 years he lived in Rye and worked as a bookkeeper at Rye Town Beach and Park.

Anthony Posillipo, Rye Town supervisor and chairman of the Rye Town Park Commission, said this morning of Mr. de Forest, "He was known by everyone for his friendliness and his keen interest in the park and beach." Mr. de Forest worked at the park from after World War II until 1978 - when he was over 80. At the park, he* recorded and deposited park receipts.

Kenneth Le Roi de Forest, a retired bookkeeper at Rye Town Beach and Park, died Tuesday October 1, 1982 at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne. He was 85.

His wife, the former Emily Bulkley, died in 1978. Mr. de Forest was survived by several nieces and nephews.
