BIOGRAPHY
Lantis James Merritt
Lantis James Merritt was born on October 22, 1906, in Port Chester, New York, to Margaret Agnes Sullivan, age 27, and Alonzo (Lanty) James Merritt, age 32. He was raised and educated in Port Chester and he had one brother and two sisters. In Rye his family lived at
245 Purchase Street.
Lanty enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He rose to the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged in September 1945.
After his discharge, Lanty was a manager of both the Ossining and Mamaroneck branches of the Safe-Way food store chain, and was employed in the food department of the Westchester Country Club.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church.
Lanty James Merritt, a World War II Army Air Force sergeant veteran and a Port Chester resident died May 19, 1966 at United Hospital. He was 59.
At the time of his death, he was survived by a brother, George Merritt of Woodbury, Conn..
