Louis F. Gilbert

Louis F. Gilbert was born in Montgomery, AL January 18,1918 to Ralph and Katherine Popp Gilbert. he had one brother, Ralph and a sister Thelma. Louis was raised and educated in Montgomery.

He married Dora C. Ball in Rye at Resurrection Church on October 12, 1941. In Rye they lived at 12 Locust Ave and Louis was working at the Rye Sweet Shop.

Louis enlisted January 9, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged December 1946 after almost three years of service. After the war he was very involved in the Rye American legion, Post 128.

Louis F. Gilbert, 55, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a former resident of Rye, died July 11, 1973 at the Veterans Hospital in Miami, Fla.

He was the husband of the late Dora C. Ball. He was survived by his sister, Mrs. Thelma B. Acosta; and a brother, Ralph Gilbert, Jr.
