Page Davis


Page Davis was born in Worcester, Massachusetts in July 13, 1920 to Winsor Reed Davis and Beatrice Page. The census records show her family's home in 1930 as Larchmont, In 1940 Scarsdale.

Page was a 1938 graduate of Scarsdale High School where she was a cheerleader. In Rye her family were members of the Presbyterian Church.

Page Bramley was the spirit and flame of the Scarsdale Alumni Association. Following her elementary school years in Larchmont, White Plains and Hartsdale, the Davis family moved to Scarsdale where Page’s pep and energy led to the cheerleading squad. She planned on a professional career as a secretary, matriculating at Katherine Gibbs School in New York City.

World War II intervened and Page signed on with the WAVES and was stationed in Washington, D.C.
The WAVES served in 900 shore stations in the continental United States. Initially, they were prohibited from serving on ships or outside of the country. In September 1944, the Congress amended the law by allowing the WAVES to volunteer for service in the territories of Alaska and Hawaii. Hawaii was the only overseas station staffed with the WAVES on a permanent basis.

The officers were employed in such professions as doctors, attorneys, engineers, mathematicians, and chaplains. Most enlisted WAVES worked in jobs traditionally performed by women, such as clerical work, health care, or storekeeping.

Miss Paige Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Winsor Reed Davis of Rye, N. Y., formerly of Radburn, was married on Friday, October 27, 1945 to Captain John Leslie Dryburgh of Brainerd, Minn. The ceremony took place in Washington, D. C., followed by a reception there and one on Sunday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents for New York friends. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Speer of Abbott Court, Radburn, were among the guests. Mrs. Dryburgh was recently released from the WAVES, and Captain Dryburgh, returning from service in Italy, has also received his honorable discharge. They are flying to Brainerd, Minn. where they will make their home..

Her post-war years were marked by Page’s boundless energy. She seized on the G.I. Bill of Rights to attend and graduate from the University of Miami in 1952. In the 1950s, she and her husband traveled widely. Then she turned her contacts and her new knowledge to the resort business, where she was in charge of public relations for a number of hotels and directed resorts including Castle Harbour, Harbour Island and Pirates Cove in the Bahamas. Later she began a new career selling real estate in the Bahamas and In Miami, Florida.

After the death or divorce of her first husband she married William Bramley January 16, 1976, in Broward, FL.. The best was yet to come. Moved by the good spirits among her classmates at their 50th reunion in 1988, Page founded the Scarsdale Alumni Association. Over the years she served as President and Executive Director of the organization. No matter her title, Page’s energy and special love for Scarsdale High School kept the Alumni Association afloat. She continued her leadership role well into her eighties.

Page Davis Bramley died December 10, 2006 in Boca Raton, FL, at the age of 86.
