Peter J. Kenny

Peter Joseph Kenny was born on June 29, 1920, in Leitrim, Galway, Ireland, the son of Cecelia and William. He had one daughter with Joan Marie Olgilvie. In Rye his family lived at 109 Theodore Fremd Avenue and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Peter was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1938. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Co. C ,180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division during World War II.

During World War II, the 45th Division fought in 511 days of combat. Nine soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor during their service with the 45th Infantry Division, Soldiers of the division also received 61 Distinguished Service Crosses, three Distinguished Service Medals, 1,848 Silver Star Medals, 38 Legion of Merit medals, 59 Soldier's Medals, 5,744 Bronze Star Medals, and 52 Air Medals. The division received seven distinguished unit citations and eight campaign streamers during the conflict.


Eight Rye Men in Draft Announcement has been made by Draft Board 750, covering Rye and Mamaroneck, that eight present and former residents of Rye will be among the thirty three men inducted into the army this month. They include John W. Jerman, 216 Purchase Street; Peter J. Kenny, 109 Theodore Fremd Avenue; John J. Donohue, 47 Oakwood Avenue; Ernest M. Langeloh, 39 Brookdale Place, and Richard Wermuth, 5 Pine Lane. Also Albert J. Cicchiello, of Port Chester, and Burne A. Schaeffer and Elliott Eakrin, both of New York City, former Rye residents.
