Philip D. Reed was born in New York in 1924. In Rye his family lived at 44 Dogwood Lane and were members of the Presbyterian Church. Philip enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Brainard Betrothal Announced has cm Announcement been made of the gagement of Elizabeth Nash Brainard, daughter Mrs. Leonard V. Harrison of Rye, N. Y., and Ira F. Brainard of Pittsburgh, to Philip Dunham Reed Jr. Mr. Reec is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Dunham Reed, also of Rye. Miss Brainard Is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Brainard of Wood land Rd. The wedding will take place In December. The bride-elect was graduated from Rye Country Day School and made her debut at the Westchester Cotillion in 1943. Her fiance, an Andover graduate, attended Yale University before joining the Marine. Corps. He took part in four major actions in the Pacific, Including Iwo Jima. He has resumed his studies at Yale.
