 Shirley S Jennys Scifres
Shirley Spotswood Jennys Scifres was born on January 21, 1922, in New Rochelle, New York, to Mary Spotswood Norvell Jennys, age 22, and Harold William Jennys, age 32. She had a sister Patricia and a brother Harold and in Rye her family lived in Sussex Gardens.
Shirley was graduated from Stuart Hall, Staunton, Va., in 1939. She made her debut at a party given by her parents on New Year's Day, 1940.
She later attended Paine Hall School in New York and was graduated as a medical assistant in 1941. She was then employed by the American Cyanamid Company, New York City.
In the Winter of 1945, Shirley volunteered and served in the American Red Cross during World War II.
Shirley Jennys in Italy Miss Shirley Jennys is with American Red Cross and word been received by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold W. Jennys of Sussex Gardens that she has arrived safely in Naples Italy.

She served overseas with the American Red Cross for 17 months. She was a program director of the American Red Cross Club at Cividale, Italy. It would be in Italy that she would meet her future husband.
Shirley married Charles Franklin Scifres in the Rye Presbyterion Church, on December 14, 1946, when she was 24 years old. The
Rev. Robert R. Bryan officiated.
Staunton Woodman, formerly of
Rye, now of Ridgewood, N. J., was
the organist. A small reception
followed the ceremony at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Hodgman, Jr., of the Post Road. The couple would have three children during their marriage.
In 1950, the couple were living and working in Stamford, CT,
Shirley Spotswood Jennys Scifres died in 2001 at the age of 79.
