BIOGRAPHY
 
Timothy J. "The Greek" Stavrides


Timothy J. Stavrides was born on May 11, 1926 in Rye, NY to James and Katerina Georgeou Stavrides. He had three brothers Jack, Jordan and Anthony and in Rye his family lived at 61 Purchase St.. Tim was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1944.

He left high school early and enlisted May 15, 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Tim served in the U S Naval Air Force as in aviation machinist's mate.


After the war, he was a self employed painter in the Westchester County area for many years.

Locally, Tim was a 48 year member of the Rye Fire Department, serving at the Poningoe Engine and Hose Company and was a longtime member of the Rye Golf Club.







He was an avid softball player and was a pitcher for the Yale and Towne Lock Company team winning the city championship for three years.

Tim had a story for everything, everybody and for every occasion. He had a great sense of humor and as he would tell you himself "I'm the greatest Greek, since Picolo Pete" and laugh like it was the first time he ever said it.

Timothy J. Stavrides, a lifelong resident of Rye, died on November 15, 2004 at United Hospital in Port Chester. He was 78.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his brothers: Jack, Jordan, both of Rye and Anthony of Patterson, NY.

The funeral was held on Friday, November 19, 2004 at the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Savior. Interment followed at Greenwood Union Cemetery.

Hello. My Uncle Tim’s name is spelled incorrectly on the top of this page, it’s spelled (correctly) as STAVRIDES.
