William Alfred Raleigh

William Alfred Raleigh was born on November 8, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA to Myrtle Florence Quick and William Alfred Raleigh. He was raised in Pennsylvania and was graduated from Penn-Charter School and in 1939 from Branford College, Yale University.

Before the war, William was associated with Chubb and Sons, underwriters, and the Pan American Union in New York City. He was a member of the Yale Club of New York.

William enlisted September 17, 1942 and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After being commissioned in the Navy he served in Chile with the Intelligence Department and then an amphibious training base in Norfolk, Va.

Lieutenant (jg) William Alfred Raleigh, Jr., U.S.N. married Alice Bartlett Stimson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Stimson, of Rye, N. Y., on April 27, 1944, in the Episcopal Church, Rye. A reception at the Apawamis Country Club followed the ceremony. They had one child during their marriage and in Rye his family lived on Mendota Avenue.

He was honorably discharged April 19, 1945 as a LT Commander. His marriage ended in divorce in 1947.

William Alfred Raleigh died on November 5, 2000, at the age of 81, and was buried in Maryland.
