Kenneth George Allen

Kenneth George Allen was born on March 28, 1900, in Attleboro, Massachusetts to Frank E and Frances Searles Allen. He was raised and had his primary education in Massachusetts. Kenneth graduated from Norwich Academy in Vermont.

Founded in 1819 in the town of Norwich, Vermont, as the American Literary, Scientific and Military Academy, it is the oldest private military college in the United States and the birthplace of the ROTC program. Kenneth enlisted September 12, 1918 and served in the US Army during WWI.

He married Margaret Emily Bancroft on October 2, 1926, in Montpelier, Vermont. They had one child during their marriage. In Rye his family lived at 26 Halsted Place and Kenneth was employed as an underwriter for a life insurance company.

Kenneth enlisted and served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Captain Kenneth Allen Reports for Active Duty
Kenneth Allen, who was recently commissioned captain of cavalry in the U. S. Army, has reported for active duty. Captain Allen, who enlisted as a private in 1918 and served in the First World War. In 1920, he rode thoroughbred Morgan horse, “Castor,” in the U. S. Mounted Ser- vice endurance test from Fort Ethan Allen, Vt., to Camp Devens, Mass., sixty miles a day for five days. Fifty- four horses started and ten finished, with “Castor” in seventh place.
Captain Allen enlisted as a Norwich University polo team and is one of the board of trustees of Nor- wich Alumni Association.Mrs. Allen and their fifteen-year-old son, Carlos, a student at Rye High School, will remain in Rye.

After his discharge, he returned to Rye and opened his own insurance business. He was recalled to service during the Korean War serving as a Colonel in the Army.

Once again he returned to Rye and his business. He retired to Vermont with his wife where she still had family.

Kenneth George Allen, veteran of WWI, WWII and Korea, died on January 13, 1992, in Northfield, Vermont, at the age of 91.
