John Vincent Fastiggi

John Vincent Fastiggi was born May 23, 1922, in . Rye to John L. and Elizabeth Giorno Fastiggi. In Rye his family lived at 249 Central Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. John graduated from Resurrection Grammar School and Rye High School, Class of 1940.

He enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.


According to Marine Corps Muster Rolls served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps during World War II at Okinawa and Iwo Jima aboard the USS New York. He was wounded in action twice and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star for Valor and Navy Citation.

He attended New York University, the New York School of Fine Arts and Parsons School of Design. Mr. Fastiggi owned Fastiggi Painting, a contracting and design firm in Larchmont from 1946 to 1992. The company now is called Third Generation.

He married Carol Horton Williams on March 3, 1949, in White Plains. They settled in Scarsdale, where Mr. Fastiggi volunteered as a youth sports coach. He coached football at Green Acres Elementary School from 1951 to 1955. For the next nine years, he coached baseball, football and basketball at Quaker Ridge Elementary School. He was known as “Mr. Quaker Ridge:” .

He was a member of the Scarsdale Dads Club and served as a Scoutmaster. He was a member of the Scarsdale Police Auxiliary, rising to lieutenant. He and his wife were divorced in 1975, and Mr. Fastiggi moved to Larchmont where he coached in the Babe Ruth League. He was a member of the New York Fencers Club and trained for the U.S. Olympics.

He was a member of the Marine Corps League of Westchester. “He was very proud to be a Marine. It was a big part of his life”, said a son, Brian Fastiggi of Larchmont.

At the time of his death, John was survived by another son, David H. Fastiggi of Larchmont two daughters, Wendy Cacamo and Necia D. Fastiggi, both of Peekskilj; two stepdaughters, Mary Lee Sapone and Carol Ann 1 McFadden, both of New Rochelle;, a sister, Mabel. Fiscella of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
