Eugene Edward O’Brien

Eugene Edward O’Brien, age 89, of Stratford, beloved husband of Maureen Kelley O’Brien, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 21, 2017. Born to the late Terese (née Dunn) and Thomas Chester O’Brien, Sr. Gene was a longtime resident of Rye, NY and a 1946 graduate of Rye High School. After serving in the Army in Germany and France during the Korean War, Gene studied for his Bachelor and Masters degrees in International Relations at the Universidad Interamericana in Mexico City.

He then returned to Rye where he had a long career in promotions and advertising at Dunham & Smith, a leading military marketing and services company located in Greenwich and Norwalk. He later moved to Fairfield, CT and has spent the last 18 years in Lordship enjoying retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sisters, Karin Carozza of Bridgeport and Marjorie Mori of San Mateo, CA, and fourteen nieces and nephews. Gene enjoyed a special bond with his two nephews Eugene and Gregory Carozza. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Brien E. Kelley (Patricia), Ellen R. Kelley, Regan Kelley Orillac (Manuel), and James P. Kelley (Brigid), and twelve grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Chester O’Brien, Jr and Sister Mary Gratia, O.P.

There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Peace Church, 651 Stratford Road, Stratford, CT on Wednesday October 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. A future private burial will take place in Rye, NY. Donations can be made to Our Lady of Peace Sanctuary Fund in memory of Eugene O’Brien. Arrangements are in the care of the FAIRFIELD FUNERAL HOME of EDMUND W. DOUGIELLO, 36 South Pine Creek Road.
