EARLY LIFE
Frederick Bassett Gedney was born on March 29, 1893, in Rye, New York, the son of George H. Gedney and Josephine Clark Miller.
He was raised in Rye and worked as a bookkeeper prior to his military service.
WORLD WAR I SERVICE
Gedney was inducted into the United States Army on October 25, 1918, at Westchester County, New York.
He served at Camp Wheeler, Georgia, in receiving and training camp units.
He did not serve overseas. His record indicates no wounds received in action, and he was honorably discharged on December 16, 1918.
POSTWAR LIFE
Gedney worked as an accountant in Port Chester for many years and was active in church, fraternal organizations, and the Boy Scouts.
Frederick Bassett Gedney died on July 6, 1969, at United Hospital. He was survived by his wife, Mabel Anna Gerlach Gedney; a son, Frederick Jr.; a daughter; two brothers; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
