Andrew R. Scott
Andrew R. Scott was born May 3, 1920, in New York, N.Y., to Thomas Dunlop Scott and Katherine McKean Scott. In Rye his family lived in Blind Brook Lodge. Andrew was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1939.
During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps from 1939-1945, where he served as a first lieutenant in the 249th. After the war he moved to New Jersey; from1945 to 1957 in Millis and in Sherborn, from 1957 until 1989.
He graduated from New York University with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering in 1954, and was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Alpha Pi Mu Engineering Honor Societies and past chairman of the Society of Die Casting Engineers.
Andrew was a shipbuilder at the Thomas D. Scott Shipbuilding Yard and was employed for 36 years as an industrial engineer by Stella Products in New Jersey , the L.E. Mason Co. in Boston, and the Cambridge Tool and Mfg. Co. in Billerica, retiring in 1983. He retired to Fearrington Village, N.C., in 1989, and moved to the Piedmont Retirement Center, Thomasville, N.C. in 1999. In 2004, he relocated to Sanctuary at Bellbrook in Rochester Hills.
He was an active member of the Millis Church of Christ and the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Sherborn, serving as a deacon and as a member of the church choirs. He was a member of the United Church, Chapel Hill and First Presbyterian Church in Thomasville, N.C.
Andrew Ross Scott, 90, of Rochester Hills, Mich., died Thursday, Feb, 3, 2011, at Crittenton Hospital.
He was the loving husband of Mary Alice Barker Scott, who died in 2001. At the time of his death he was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary Kate Scott Bayer and her husband, Peter, of Naperville, Ill., and Gwenllian Barker Scott of Rochester Hills, Mich.; two sons, Andrew Ross Scott Jr. and Amy Sanderson, of South Deerfield, and Thomas Dunlop Scott II, of Seymour, Conn.
Also surviving were his brother, Thomas Dunlop Scott and his wife, Mary, of Sarasota, Fla.; and his three granddaughters, Shannon-Lee Vanora Scott, Gina Katherine Scott and Kaitlyn Scott Davis.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 19, at University Presbyterian Church, Rochester Hills, Mich, the Rev. Dr. George Portice and Rev. Marianne Grano, officiating. Interment was in Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y.,
