Description

John Paul Boettger was born on November 8, 1919, in New York City, New York, to Louise M Wichman, age 28, and Henry William Boettger, age 27. In Rye his family lived In Greenhaven.

John attended the Riverdale Preparatory School in New York where he was, member of the Glee Club which traveled through Europe on a concert tour in 1937. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he was a member of Sigma Alpha EpMlQn fraternity. He was also prominent as an athlete and played polo at the Blind Brook Turf and Polo Club In Port Chester.

John enlisted July 14, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from the Army Forces Technical Training Command School at Yale University and was commissioned a second lieutenant.

His course covered the study of electrical armament controls, small arms, explosives Ammunition, bomb racks and low target equipment.

After the war, John married Harriet Christine Lankenau on January 25, 1947, in White Plains, New York and they had four children.

In 1950 the family had moved to Scarsdale, NY and John was employed in the textile industries.

He moved to Florida in the early 1980’s and where he spent his next 30 years. He enjoyed traveling frequently.

John died on July 27, 2010, in Jupiter, Florida, at the age of 90

At the time of his death, survivors included his life partner, Frances Burd; daughters, Christine (Paul) Amaden, Gail (Douglas) Ricci, Allison (Mitch) Mohagel, Pamela (Brent) Martin and Leslie Rowley and Gary Divin; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Harriet, his wife of 53 years.

John Paul Boettger was buried at the Memorial Garden at First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan in Connecticut.
