William Henry O’Grady was born on February 22, 1905, in Rye, New York, to Marie “Molly” Toomey, age 30, and Henry O’Grady, age 34. He had two sisters Mary and Josephine.

In Rye his family lived at 21 Locust Lane and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

William enlisted in 1942 and served three years in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Before and after the war, William was formerly associated with his father at the O’Grady Nurseries on Milton Road. He was educated in Rye schools and had been a member of the Milton Hose Company since his youth.

William Henry O’Grady died on November 19, 1953, when he was 48 years old.

WILLIAM H. O’GRADY The funeral of William Henry O’Grady, forty-eight, of 21 Locust Lane, lifelong resident of Rye. who died Thursday in St. Clare’s Hospital, New York City, was held Monday morning at 9:30 from the William H. Graham Funeral Home. A solemn requiem mass followed at ten o’clock in the Church of the Resurrection, with the Right Rev. Msgr. John D. McGowan celebrant. He was assisted by the Rev. James Tully and the Rev. Cornelius O’Brien, assistant pastors. Present at the altar during the services was the Rev. James Loughlin of the Corpus Christ! Church, Port Chester. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery with Father O’Brien conducting the committal rites.
Pallbearers, all members of the Milton Point Hose Company of which Mr. O’Grady was a member since his youth were Peter Maloney, Ellwood Ferris, Edward Byrnes, Alfred Gedney, William Elmore, Walter Byrnes and Rodman O’Dell.
The Fire Department carried floral tributes in the funeral cortege. Mr. O’Grady was the son of Henry O’Grady and the late Marie O’Grady. He was formerly associated with his father at the O’Grady Nurseries on Milton Road.
In addition to his father and his wife, the former Lillian Williams, he leaves a stepdaughter, Judy O’Grady, twelve, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Connolly and Miss Josephine O’Grady, a Rye school-teacher.
