John J. Haff

John J. Haff was born in Greenwich March 24, 1910 the son of Major John Haff, of 49
Palisade Road and Margaret L. Haff. He had one sister Helene and the family were members of the Church of the Resurrection. He attended Port
Chester schools and was a graduate
of Port Chester High School. He
later attended Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.

John operated the B & J Service
Station at Cedar Street and Purchase Street for five years before the war. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

John enlisted in November 1940 and was assigned to the 192nd Field Artillery Battalion of the 43rd Infantry Division.
He served throughout World War
II in the South Pacific including
the Solomon Islands, New Guinea
and Philippine Island campaigns.

After the war he enlisted in the
Regular Army and was stationed
in Germany where he was with a
transportation unit for seven years.

Master Sgt. John J. Haff Jr., forty four, who recently returned from Europe, was found dead in his car early Monday morning, apparently the victim of a heart attack. A passerby was attracted to the car on Bayard Avenue, New Rochelle when he saw the wheels churning in the snow at 12:30 a.m. Police said Sgt. Haff had just left the home of a friend.

The funeral was held at the William H. Graham Funeral Home, followed by a Requiem Mass at the Church of the Resurrection. Interment was a Bay Shore, N. Y.

In addition to his father, Sgt. Haff was survived by a sister, Mrs. Frank Connolly of New York City
