Joseph D. Bucci
Joseph D. Bucci was born November 8, 1907 in Port Chester New York to Mary Salvatore, age 28, and Antonio Bucci, age 27. He had four sisters and four brothers and in Rye his family lived at 58 Maple Ave.
Joseph was educated in Port Chester attending Catholic Schools. He was a member of The Salesian Boys’ Band. The organization was one of the first boys’ bands in the State of New York, and was composed of youths from the Corpus Christi and Holy Rosary parishes.
John Philip Sousa, famed American band leader, was the honorary sponsor of the band, and kept in close touch with its development through Mr. Stickney,: a former member of Sousa’s band. Because of its connection with the great band leader, the organization eventually became nicknamed “Sousa’s Baby Band”.
Joseph married Jane Markell and they would have one daughter. In 1940 Joseph was self employed working as an accountant.
Joseph enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the USS Lloyd E. Acree from August 1944 – August 1945. SEE MUSTER ROLLS
USS Lloyd E. Acree (DE-356) was a John C. Butler-class destroyer escort acquired by the United States Navy during World War II. The primary purpose of the destroyer escort was to escort and protect ships in convoy, in addition to other tasks as assigned, such as patrol or radar picket.
After the war, Joseph returned to Rye and resumed his life as father, husband and accountant. He was also a charter member of the Port Chester Old Timers Club.
He was a parishioner of Corpus Christi Church and was employed as office manager of a White Plains automobile dealership.
Joseph D. Bucci died April 7, 1977.
Beloved husband of Jane Markell Bucci and devoted father of Mrs. Frank (Mary Ellen) Masilotti. Loving grandfather of Frank, Lori, Michele and Michael Masilotti. Son of Antonia Bucci and late Mary Angela Salvatore Bucci. Brother of Mrs.
Donald (Elizabeth) McLean, Mrs. Herbert (Mary) Peisker, Mrs. Ralph (Ann) Bonomo, Frank, Domenick, Albert and Arthur Bucci.
