Anne Mary Devers


Anne Mary Devers was born on October 22, 1919, in New York to Mary Ann Hunter, age 36, and John Joseph Devers, age 41. She had one sister Ellen and two brothers John and Hugh. In Rye her family lived at 46 Meadow Place and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

Anne was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1937. In high school she was very active in clubs and sports and was a member of the National Honor Society

Anne enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. She served as a Sergeant in the Marine Corp Womens Reserve in Washington, DC.

She married Jack Center Witte in 1941 when she was 22 years old. They had one son during their marriage. Her husband Jack Center passed away on October 19, 1996, in Deerfield Beach, Florida, at the age of 76. They had been married 55 years.

Anne Mary Devers died on January 3, 2011, in Denver, Colorado, when she was 91 years old.
