George E. Herbst was born in New York in 1904. In Rye his family lived at 27 Exchage Pl. George enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

GEORGE E. HERBST

George E Herbst of 390 Forest Avenue, died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Batavia, N. Y. on his forty-eighth birthday. He had been ill for eight years in several VA hospitals.

Born in Rye the son of Mary Fagan Herbst and the late Harry Herbst, he attended Rye and Port Chester schools before entering the Army m 1942. He was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Mercy, Port Chester.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a son. James of Mamaroneck: three brothers, John and Arthur- of Port Chester- and Harr y of Peekskill: five sisters. Mrs. Ethel Zucks and Mrs. Dorothy Roth of White Plains. Mrs. Anna Adams of Rye. Mrs. Helen Stitchfield of Atlantic City, N. J., and Mrs. Ruth Mason of Port Chester.
