Jack C. Shipley

Jack C. Shipley was born on August 29, 1916, in Kansas City, Missouri to Lydia Edith Robison and Jessie C Shipley. He had two brothers and was raised and educated in Kansas City.

He married Dorothy M Lane on March 16, 1937, in his hometown. They had two children during their marriage. By 1940, the couple had moved to Los Angelis and started a family and Jack was employed as a cabinet maker.

Jack enlisted June 1, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal with eight oak leaf clusters and the Purple Heart.

B-17 gunner, has been awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart. The son of L. E. Shipley, 92 Greenhaven Road, Sgt. Shipley has returned from fourteen months service in North Africa and Italy where he engaged in fifty missions His wife is Dorothy M. Shipley, of 802 W. 59 Dr. , Los Angeles, Calif. Sgt. Shipley is being processed through the Army Air Forces Redistribution Station No. 2 in Miami Beach, Fla. , where his next assignment will be determined.
RYE, NEW YORK FRIDAY, AUGUST 4, 1944

Jack was honorably discharge June 2, 1945. In 1950, Jack was back in LA and was working again as a cabinet maker. He and his wife now had two children and the family was joined by his mother Lydia (L E) Shipley.

Jack reenlisted November 17, 1949 and was recalled to active duty March 17, 1951 to serve in the Korean War and was again honorably discharged March 16, 1952.

Jack C. Shipley died on November 16, 1955, in Puerto Rico at the age of 39, and was buried in Bakersfield, California.
