Joseph Antinozzi was born on March 13, 1907 in Pennsylvania to parents Antonio Antinozzi and Maria Schindo. He was the oldest of eight children (Walter, Rocco, Jean, Lucy, Rose, Anthony, Joseph).

His family lived at 214 Central Avenue (street view) and his family were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

Joseph taught golf at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck from 1923-1941. In later years he taught at Cherry Lawn Golf Range in Scarsdale and the New York Athletic Club in NYC.

Joseph enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941-1945. He was wounded on January 16, 1945 in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge and awarded the Purple Heart.

After the war,

Joseph designed and made golf clubs. He learned the craft as a teenager in the days when making clubs was a prerequisite to becoming a golf pro.

He opened his store White Dot Golf Shop in 1946 and his clients comprised a “Who’s Who” of the golf world including Gary Player, George Archer and David Graham. Even King Hassan II of Morocco visited the shop several times when he played at Winged Foot.

Ellis Knowles of Rye, who won the US Senior Golf Open several times, called him the Michelangelo of golf. Claude Harmon of Winged Foot called him the King of Clubs.

His talents as a club craftsman were highlighted on the TV show, Wall Street Journal Report. Joseph was a long time member of the PGA and a communicant of Resurrection Church.

Joseph Antinozzi, pro golfer and area businessman and owner of White Dot Golf Shop, died Friday, December 1, 1984 after a long illness. He was 77.

At the time of his death he was survived by three sisters and his four brothers.
