Joseph John Belluscio was born in New York February 14, 1923 to Vito and Carmela Isoldi Belluscio. He had two brothers Frank and Mike and two sisters Dana and Anne. In Rye his family lived at 352 Midland Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Joseph was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1934, where he was a three sport athlete.
He enlisted October 22, 1942 and served in the US Army Military Police Corps.
During World War II, Military Police (MPs) were essential for maintaining order, traffic control, and security across all theaters, officially established as a U.S. Army branch in September 1941. They managed POWs, secured supply routes, and acted as combat support, notably at Normandy and on the Burma Road. MPs trained at Fort Riley and Fort Custer.
