George J. Brown was born in New York on October 23th, 1934. In Rye he lived at 84 Purchase Street, with his father George, his mother Hazel, and his brother John. His father was head of the household and worked as a Truck Driver, making all of the family income. George was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1952. His senior class referred to him as “Susie” and remembered him as a very funny guy. He was an essential part of chorus for all 4 years of high school in addition to choir as an upperclassmen. During his high school years he was also active in the Leaders Club, the Cafeteria Committee, the Junior and Senior Bridge Committees, photography club, Intramurals, and was a G.O. Representative. After high school George Brown eventually came to serve in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War.

GEORGE BROWN, JR.

Funeral services were held today at Christ’s Church for George Brown, Jr., 35, of 452 Milton Road, who died Monday morning after a long illness at the Kingsbridge Veteran’s Hospital in the Bronx, where he had been a patient since Friday. Interment was in St. Stephens Cemetery, Armonk.

Mr. Brown was born in Port Chester, Oct. 2.S, 1934, son of George and Hazel Sweeney Brown of the home address. His father operates Brown’s Trucking Co. in Rye. A bank clerk with the Bank of New York in New York City, he served with the Marine Corps in the Korean War. Attached to the First Marine Division, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal before being discharged in 1955.

A 1952 graduate of Rye High School, he was a member of Christ’s Church where he had at one time been a choir boy. He was a past commander of Rye Memorial Post 7550. Veterans of Foreign Wars. In additional to his parents, Mr. Brown is survived by his brother, Jack, of Rye.
