Charles Hall “Chape” Chapin Jr. was born in Twin Falls, Idaho March 24, 1911 to Charles H. and Dorothy Trail Chapin. He had two older siblings Emily and Richard Trail and the family lived at 291 Rye Beach Avenue, Rye, NY. His Father was a sales manager and his mother was a homemaker.

Charles attended Phillips Academy Andover at Boston, Massachusetts and Yale University at New Haven, Connecticut. He was employed by Texaco as a retail representative in West Texas and New Mexico State. He was playing manager of the Lubbock Hubber Baseball Team.

He married Melita Louise Johnson on June 24, 1939. They had two children during their marriage.

Charles served as an officer in the US Navy during WWII as a Naval Aviator, primary flight instructor at Hensley Field at Grand Prairie, TX. As a test pilot and operations officer in the Pacific Theater in Naval Air Transport service in DC4s. As an instructor at Olathe, KS in DC3s and as public relations officer for Naval Research in Washington DC.

His brother Richard Trail Chapin served in the Merchant Marines and was killed when a German U-Boat sunk his ship in the north Atlantic.

After the war, Charles was a captain for MercurAfter the war, Charles was a captain for Mercury Airlines. He bought the Texaco Station in the Highland Park Shopping Village and served as president of the Village Merchants Association and the Dallas Petroleum Retailers.y Airlines.

He and his wife also formed a condominium management and real estate sales in Northwest Hwy and Preston Rd area.
He was a member of the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Dallas Yale Club.

Charles Hall “Chape” Chapin Jr. died on November 18, 2000, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 89, and was buried there.

Preceded in death by his wife Melita Johnson Chapin.
He was survived by daughters, Knoxie Chapin Heap of University Park, Shelley Chapin Drake of Denver CO; granddaughters, Jenna Heap Rupley, Barry Heap and Dorry Heap, all of University Park .
