Arthur Raymond Cleary was born in Port Chester, New York on May 29, 1930. He grew up on 95 Coolidge Avenue with his mother Dorothy M. Ide and his father John H. Cleary. In high school he was definitely a jock. He played baseball, football, and basketball and was a member of the varsity club throughout different years of high school. His love of sports is further proved by his yearbook quote which was, “to love the game beyond the prize.” In 1952 he graduated from New York University and the same year, in January 1952, he enlisted in the US Army. He attended Fire Direction Control School at Fort Sill, Okla and afterwards was stationed in Europe. He was a Private with the 28th Infantry Division in Germany. He died on December 26, 2000 years after serving as a Private in the Vietnam War.

Arthur R. Cleary a White Plains resident since 1961 died December 26, 2000. He was 70. He was born May 29, 1930 to Dorothy and John Cleary.
He graduated Harrison HS. and NYU where he played baseball for 4 years at each school. He was an original member of the White Plains Boys Baseball Committee (1962). The first President of the W.P. Touchdown Club (1972) , W.P. Boys Baseball Coach for 20 years during those years he coached his sons on both the Papa John’s and Medics Teams. He couched the American Legion Team for 18 years.
He served in the US. Army during the Korean War in Germany where he played on a European Championship Baseball team. Mr. Cleary was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., he retired in 1994. Mr.. Cleary married Maureen Kraft on January 16, 1954 at St. Ursula’s Church in Mt. Vernon. Besides his wife Maureen of White Plains he is survived hi his children Stephen Cleary of Tappan, NY Karen Lipperman, Brian Cleary and Pamela Iannibelli; all of Hawthorne, a sister Charlotte Stachnik of New City and nine grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Michael, Stephanie, Brianna, Samantha, Alisha, Kevin, John and Nicole. Visiting hours will be Thursday 5-9 PM at McMAHON, LYON & HARTNETT FUNERAL HOME, White Plains, 949-7777. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 10:00 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Donations can be made to the children’s Hospital of your choice.
