Description

James H. De Revere was born on March 19, 1912, in Tarrytown, New York, to Sara Jennings, age 21, and Edward M Derevere, age 29. James grew up in Tarrytown, NY.

He studied at the Washington Irving School in Tarrytown and at Lafayette College, where he was a member of Theta Delta Chi.

James married Barbara Stiles on October 24,1936, both were descendants of early Tarrytown settlers. The ancestors of both are buried in the historic Sleepy Hollow Church. Miss Stiles was a descendant of Wolfert Acker who was Privy Councilor to Peter Stuyvesant, and who built “Sunnyside,” the home of Washington Irving in Tarrytown.

She was also descended from Jan Acker, of the first, deacons of the Sleepy Hollow Church. He was descended from French Huguenot families. One of his ancestors was Abraham de Revere who settled in Tarrytown at the end of the 17th Century..

Before the war James was working for the Aetna Life Insurance Co. and then the airline industry. In Rye he and his wife lived at 66 Milton (Blindbrook Apartments) Road.

James served as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Second Lieut. James H. DeRevere, who was recently commissioned at the Air Forces Officer Training School, Miami Beach, Fla. , is taking over executive duties in Air Forces maintenance that parallel the position he held in civilian life. He lived at 66 Milton Road before enlisting.

After the war, James was an executive with TWA, Trans World Airlines. He and his wife moved to Winchester, MA and raised their two sons.

James H. De Revere died on May 26, 1996, in Colbert, Georgia, at the age of 84.
