Young women were keen on serving in the military during WWII, and the Marine Corps desired only the best. The standards set for women who wished to volunteer for the Reserve were demanding.

When asked how she felt about receiving Employee Of The Month Award, Anne stated “It’s mighty nice to be recognized by co-workers. I was raised under the old code, to use God given talents to the best of my ability, to do the best job I can. I can’t operate any other way, it’s just the way I am and it’s nice to be appreciated.”
