Claire Drummond was born on June 7, 1924, in Port Chester, New York, to Elsa Paul, age 26, and Clarence Drummond, age 29. She had two younger brothers Paul and Ray. In Rye her family lived at 46 Sanford St..

Claire was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942, where she was very active in sports and clubs. Claire received a merchandizing scholarship in school. Before the war she had been working at Best and Company and The Rye Trust Company.

Claire enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II. Her Service Number was 769 79 64
and she served with Air Transport Squadron 3. (SEE MUSTER ROLLS)

WAVES, acronym of Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, military unit, established on July 30, 1942, as the U.S. Navy’s corps of female members. During World War II some 100,000 WAVES served in a wide variety of capacities, ranging from performing essential clerical duties to serving as instructors for male pilots-in-training.

At least one-third of the WAVES were assigned to naval aviation duties.

Seaman 1/c Claire Drummond was one of a group of four seaman WAVES each of whom averaged about 100 hours monthly flying on the twin engine Douglas C-47 Skytrains of Squadron Three the Navy’-trans-continental airline division with headquarters at the U S Naval Air Station Olathe, KA.

Claire Drummond married Edward Oscar Sentar in District of Columbia on March 19, 1948, when she was 23 years old. They had two children during their marriage, Craig and Linda. The family would reside in Maryland, Mississippi, Alabama and North Carolina. Claire was an avid golfer playing and winning many tournaments throughout the South. She was also an avid gardener and joined a garden club wherever life took her.

Claire Drummond Sentar died on December 20, 2008, in Novelty, Ohio, when she was 84 years old.
