Clyle Joseph Flora

Clyle Joseph Flora was born on March 4, 1905, in Willsboro, New York, his father, Joseph, was 43 and his mother, Carrie, was 41. He had five brothers and three sisters and attended Willsboro schools. In Rye he lived at 190 Central Avenue.

Clyle enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the 458 Medical Co. as T-4. Medical units of First U. S. Army were deployed to support troops engaged in a slow advance, receiving high casualties from an enemy defense planned and executed to exact maximum costs for every foot of ground yielded. Clyle’s company’s job was to collect wounded soldiers and evacuate them to field hospitals.

After the war, Clyle moved to the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY. He married Grace M. Bolde September 17, 1959

Clyle worked for many years and retired from Schatz Federal Bearing Co. in Poughkeepsie, where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1302, Poughkeepsie.

Clyle J. Flora, 94, a longtime resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999 at Victory Lake Nursing Home, Hyde Park.

He was survived by his wife Grace Flora, Poughkeepsie; his daughter, Dorothy Newton, Poughkeepsie; granddaughter, Rosemary Peterson, Poughkeepsie; grandson, Ralph L Stevens, Poughkeepsie; great granddaughter, Dorothy L. Fisher, great grandson, vid Cade, Poughkeepsie; grandchildren. and three, great-great grandchildren.

Burial was at American Union Cemetery, Hyde Legion #1302 conducted Military Honors.
