“Above is a 1944 World War II U.S. Navy photograph that includes Ernie Fornander of Rye, New York (front row, second from left), and my father, Robert K. “Keith” Cone (middle row, fifth from left). I have also included the back side of the photograph that lists all the men and their hometowns, signed in their own handwriting.

The caption at the top of the photo reads “AOM G 3 SEC. FT N.A.T.T.C. MEMPHIS, NOV., ’44’ “. AOM stands for Aviation Ordnancemen. “An Aviation Ordnanceman (AO) is a US Navy sailor who manages and maintains the weapons and ammunition on Navy aircraft.” N.A.T.T.C. MEMPHIS stands for Naval Air Technical Training Center. My dad referred to it as the Naval Air Station Memphis. It is in west Tennessee near the city of Memphis.”
