Wilford H. Gilmore
Wilford Henry Gilmore was born on August 26, 1926, in Port Chester, New York, to Oliver Gilmore and Mary Towe. In Rye he lived at 25 Goldwin St. Wilford was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1944.
In high school he was a member of the band and Chess Club. Wilford was also an outstanding athlete especially in track and basketball.
After high school, Wilford was employed by the United States Postal Service in New York City.
He enlisted February 14, 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His active duty service number was 9108783 and he served in logistic support and was honorably discharged on April 14, 1946.
He returned to Rye and worked for the City for a few years and then as a paint sprayer at a Brush Factory.
Wilford Henry Gilmore died on March 4, 1979, when he was 52 years old.
