Rudolph Louis Glasel was born on February 19, 1901, in Manhattan, New York, to Jennie Krauskopf, age 25, and Leopold P. Glasel, age 25. He was raised and educated in the Bronx and later New Jersey. He married Mildred Grisman on February 19,1932 in New York City and they would have one son.

Rudolph was an electrician and by 1942 he was working at the Osborn Home. In Rye his families address was 154 Theall Road.

Rudolph enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as chief electrician on the submarine tender USS Gilmore.

USS Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16) was a Fulton-class submarine tender in service with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1980. The Gilmore arrived at Majuro Atoll on 19 September 1944 and began her vital tending duties. In the four following months she made voyage repairs on submarines, replenished them, and helped in training both crewmen and repairmen. These tasks contributed to the attacks on Japanese shipping which hastened the end of the war. The ship also provided repairs and parts for surface ships when necessary.

After the war Rudolph stayed in the Navy as a Chief Electrician. He and his family relocated to San Diego, CA. His wife Mildred passed away in 1954. He would remarry Jennie (Giovanna) Pico and Rudolph would retire as a U.S. Naval Warrant Officer.

Rudolph Louis Glasel died on March 9, 1972, in San Diego, California, at the age of 71, and was buried in
Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Jennie (Giovanna) Pico Glasel, his son, Jay A. Glasel, PhD, and four generations of nieces and nephews.
