Description

William Folwell Hoisington was born on March 11, 1904, in Pennsylvania to Julia May Folwell, age 29, and Frederick Reed Hoisington, age 35. In Rye his family lived on Kirby Lane and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

William was raised in a wealthy surrounding, attending Brunswick High School in Connecticut. Shortly after he went to Bermuda where he edited a radio page for The Royal Gazette and Colonist Daily. His next stop was In England, where he was a radio engineer for the Rees-Mace Company, based London.

William married Rosalie (Rose) Breiousky (Brezovsky) in White Plains, New York, on July 5, 1924, when he was 20 years old. They had one son during their marriage William Folwell Hoisington, Jr. .

From 1927 to 34 William was in Paris, France, where he owned his company, Real Music, which produced radios. In 1934 he came back to the states where he was a radio engineer for General Electric and International Telephone and Telegraph.

William enlisted September 10, 1942 and served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a captain ln the Marine Corp and conducted experiments in the advancement of radar and electronics for the armed forces.

After the war he was well known in the field of electronics and ultra-high frequency research having been associated with Bell Telephone laboratories. In 1946 he owned another company that made aluminum antennas used for radio and television.

After the death of his wife Rose he remarried Mary Maxon McCahill Sibley of Greenwich Conn on February 7, 1950.

William also worked on radar for Philco in Philadelphia, Raytheon (specifically the Hawk Missile) in Massachusetts and was director of research at Diamond Antenna, Winchester, Mass.

William Folwell Hoisington died on April 5, 1988, in West Peterborough, New Hampshire, at the age of 84, and was buried in Baltimore, Maryland.
