Richard Buchanan “Buck” Hollaman was born on July 27, 1922, in Port Chester, New York, to Janet Buchanan and Richard William Hollaman. He graduated from Deerfield Academy and Sheffield Scientific School of Yale University, ’45.

He was a member of the Yale Club, New York, and the Apawamis Club. In Rye his family lived at 242 Manursing Way and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

Richard served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served overseas as a first lieutenant in the Field Artillery, 87th Infantry Division.

The 87th Infantry Division was assigned to General Patton’s 3d Army on 25 November 1944, and arrived at Le Havre, France, on 28 November 1944. The 87th was further assigned to the III Corps on 4 December 1944, and to the XII Corps on 11 December 1944, to the XV Corps on 21 December 1944, and various Corps as needed to counter the German offensive during the Battle of Bulge. The 87th entered Germany 16 March 1945, and remained to Victory in Europe Day.

Buck was wounded during this period and was awarded the Purple Heart.

After his honorable discharge Buck returned to Yale University and received his MBA from NYU .

He married Sally A. Howard Saturday October 22,1949 at Christ’s Church, Rye. The rector, the Rev. Wendell Phillips, was assisted at the ceremony by the Rev. Dr. John Howland Lathrop, who officiated the marriage of the bridegroom’s parents.
A reception was held at the Apawamis Club.

In his business career, he was a financial analyst and money manager. He moved with his wife, Sally, to Riverwoods at Exeter, NH from Darien, CT. in 1995.

Buck was a longtime Board member and past Board President of the East Side House Settlement, Bronx, NY. He was a Board member and active volunteer at Rockingham Nutrition/Meals on Wheels and a member of the Exeter Congregational Church (UCC).

Buck enjoyed fishing, especially fly fishing. He loved the out of doors and had concern for the environment. Buck traveled the world with his wife: bicycling in Holland, heli-hiking in the Canadian Rockies, exploring Beijing to Moscow on the Orient Express. Buck was a great dancer, an entertaining teller of stories and jokes, who fully enjoyed his family and friends.

Richard Buchanan ”Buck” Hollaman, 87, passed peacefully on November 3, 2009 at his home in Exeter, NH.

At the time of his death, he was survived by wife of 60 years, Sally (nee Howard), sons, Richard B, Jr, G. Keith, and Dr. Timothy E. Hollaman and daughter, Lucy H. Cheever, eight grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. Also by sister, Mrs. Robert L. Randolph (Mary Lou) of Towson, MD. Pre deceased by sister, Mrs. Daniel G. Dobbins (Joan)

Memorial was held Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Riverwoods at Exeter.
