Irving Hoppen was born on July3, 1919, to Mollie (Malka) Hainch Hirsch Hoppen Grushkin, age 30, and Louis (Leibisch) Hoppen, age 29. He had two brothers Max and George.
In Rye his family lived at 61 Orchard Ave.
Irving enlisted in the Army on October 10, 1940, during World War II. He was 21 years old. He served during World War II in the Army’s 27th Infantry Division 102nd Engineers Band as a trumpeter. Irving was honorably discharged July 17, 1945 after almost five years of service. After the war he was a member of the Rye American Legion Post 128.
JEAN AND IRVING HOPPEN formerly of Bay Shore now retired and living in Sebring Fla celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Nov 2 A celebration was held with family Mr Hoppen served during World War II in the Army’s 27th Infantry Division 102nd Engineers Band as a trumpeter He is retired from the commercial dry cleaning laundry machinery business Mrs Hoppen a homemaker taught piano for 35 years was organist for Christ Episcopal Church in Brentwood and presently is the keyboardist at Unity Church in Sebring Their talent and love of music keeps them busy performing with local dance bands The couple has four children and five grandchildren.
Irving Hoppen, resident of Rye, NY, in the 1940’s, died of cancer November 14, 2000 at his home in Sebring, FL. He was survived by his wife, the former Jean Tilley, a daughter, Lynda Danz of Florida, three sons, Lane and Larry, both of Florida and Lance of Tennessee and five granddaughters and a brother George of Del Ray Beach, FL
