Russell W. Johnson

Russell W. Johnson was born in Yonkers, New York August 9, 1921 to William Johnson and Alice Goransson. He had three brothers and two sisters and was raised and educated in Yonkers. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1939.

In 1942 Russell was in Rye living with his aunt at 6 Ridgeland Manor and working in NYC for Wilputte Coke Ovens Inc.. He enlisted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Russell W. Johnson of 6 Ridgeland Terrace, Rye, arrived at the University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio, for five months’ course of instruction prior to his appointment as an aviation cadet in the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command. He will study elementary flying training as well as other academic courses. Upon completion of the course he will be classified as a navigator, pilot or bombardier and sent to school for further training..

After the war, Russell became vice president and general manager of the communications division at Panasonic Corp. in Secaucus, NJ for 20 years, retiring in 1986. In 1975, he was elected to the board of directors of Matsushita Electric Co. of America, Panasonic’s parent firm.

Before he was with Panasonic, Russell held management positions with Uniroyal, Du Mont Television, Westinghouse and Ideal Toy Corp. He was a 1956 cum laude graduate of New York University.

He was a member of the Advertising Review Board and the Electronics Industry Association. He was a member of Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and St.
Elizabeth’s Council of the Knights of Columbus, both of Bernardsville.

Russell W. Johnson, 67, electronics executive BERNARDSVILLE, NJ – Russell W. Johnson, 67, died Wednesday (Jan. 18, 1989) at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and lived in Waldwick before moving to Bernardsville in 1956.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Rosemary Johnson; five sons, Russell J. of Laguna Hills, Calif., Mark of Easton, Pa., William of Lebanon, Robert of Annandale and Gregory of Bernardsville; three daughters, Kathryn Masters of Parsippany, Judith of Weehawken and Carol of Bernardsville; three brothers, Wilbur of Charleston, W.Va., William of Wyckoff and Clifford of Franklin, N.C.; a sister, Ruth Ceglarski of Lakehurst; and five grandchildren.
