Richard Sandys Keator

Richard Sandys Keator was born on October 30, 1923, in St John, New Brunswick, Canada, to Marion Emma Littebrant, age 31, and Frederick Micheau Keator, age 49.

At the age of 9, he was crossing the border from St John, New Brunswick with his mother. She said she & her husband were separated & she was traveling to her sister. She then set up residence in Reno, Nevada in order to divorce Frederick & marry Russell H Hunter.

Richard returned to Canada and attended Rothesay Collegiate School, Rothesay, New Brunswick. In Richard’s personal history, he said his mother transferred him to Staunton Military Preparatory School in 1939 because she feared he’d go into active duty with the Black Watch in Canada. He graduated Staunton in June of 1942

He had moved to Rye, New York, in 1940. Richard’s home address with his mother & stepfather was 1 Oneida St & 3 Oneida St.

In the fall of 1942 he enrolled as a freshman at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

Richard enlisted in Cornell’s ROTC on September 2, 1942, in Ithaca, New York, when he was 18 years old. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the 87th graduating class of the Armored Officer Candidate School at Fort Knox, KY.

FORT KNOX, Ky. Richard S. Keator, son of Frederic M. Keator, 1 Oneida Street, Rye, was commissioned a second lieutenant in ceremonies here today. He was a member of the 87th graduating class of the Armored Officer Candidate School. Sixty-eight new officers received their gold bars upon completion of a rigorous 17-week course covering every phase of the employment of armored equipment and organizations in modern warfare. Most of the officers will be assigned as platoon commanders

He was a 2nd Lieutenant in Field Artillery in the Army and his ASN was 0558040. Richard served with Co. A , 1st Prov. Bn, 35th Infantry Division.

Returning from Europe after WW II on the Queen Mary, he was honorably discharged 24 Jun 1946. After WW II, Richard returned to Cornell University & graduated in 1948.

He married Dolores Gayle Conger in Maplewood, New Jersey, on July 29, 1950, when he was 26 years old. and they had three children together.

Once again in 1950, Richard served in the Army during the Korean War, where he was in psychological warfare. In 1951, He was at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he taught at Special Forces/Psy War School.

After his discharge, in 1953 he bought a Fruit & Syrup and Restaurant Supplies distributorship in Miami, Dade County, FL. The Keators are listed in the Miami directory with their business Miami Fruit & Syrup. Their home address is 7780 SW 115 St, Miami.

He and Dolores were divorced in 1965 after 15 years of marriage. He was 42 years old.

Richard Sandys Keator died on February 6, 1985, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 61.
