James P. Kelly

James P. Kelly was born on January 2, 1921. In Rye his family lived at 54 New Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. In 1940 James was 19 with a 14-years old, younger brother Thomas. James’s father was 52 and his mother was 43. James’s father was born in Irish Free State and his mother was born in New York. James was born in Connecticut, his brother was born in New York. He graduated from Port Chester High School in Port Chester, NY.

James enlisted and served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Infantry in Great Britain during World War II.

After the war he graduated from New York University and became a CPA. James married Mary Katherine Bayha on June 7, 1947, in Rye, New York. They had two children during their marriage. He founded the firm of James P. Kelly & Company in Rye, NY and Greenwich, CT. He was President of the Westchester County Society of Certified Public Accountants, President of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and a Board member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr Kelly was president of the Lyons Club in Rye and was instrumental in starting their eye clinics. He was chairman of the Catholic Youth Organization, president of the Fathers Club and president of the Holy Name Society at Church of The Resurrection in Rye where he was a member. He was President of the Little Missionary Day Nursery, a non-profit child care center in New York City.

Mr. Kelly organized and was President of the Fairfield County Swim League for over ten years. In addition he was a well known swimming official in New York and New England.

James P. Kelly died June 19, 2001 in Virginia Beach, VA. He is predeceased by his wife Mary B. Kelly. He is survived by his daughter Christine McConnell of Plano, TX, a son Mark, a daughter-in-law Christine and two grandsons Colin and Ryan Kelly all of Virginia Beach.A Mass of the Resurrection was conducted 3 pm June 21, 2001 at Holy Family Catholic Church by Father Thomas Quinlan.
