Angelo G. Larussell was born in Rye, New York on August 13, 1912, son of Mrs. Catherine Longo LaRussell and Angelo LaRussell Sr. He attended Rye Schools, graduating from the High School and also spending three years at St. Gabriel’s High School in New Rochelle. He later attended the YMCA Radio School in New York. In Rye his family lived at 362 Midland Ave and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

Angelo enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a technician fourth grade in the Army. Joining the service in July, 1942, He served as a private with Company E, 342nd Engineer General Service Regiment.

The 342nd Engineer General Service Regiment was a United States Army unit active during World War II. It played a role in the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the European Theater, including port reconstruction efforts following the Normandy invasion in 1944.

He afterwards entertained troops in the European Theater of Operations by playing saxophone for the 431st ASF band.

During World War II, the 431st Army Service Forces (ASF) Band was a military band unit within the United States Army. Many ASF units remained in the United States (the Zone of the Interior) to support domestic military infrastructure, though some were deployed overseas to support personnel in theaters of operation.

Angelo received the European-African-Middle Eastern service medal before being discharged in September 1945.

After the war, he was an electrician, he formerly had his own business in Putnam County and also in the Rye area.

Angelo G. LaRussell Jr., a lifelong resident of Rye, died suddenly at the United Hospital yesterday from disabilities received during World War II. He was thirty-eight years of age.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his mother are three brothers, Nicholas, Frank and Leonard, all of Rye; and four sisters, Mrs.
Joseph Wells, Mrs. Leonard Nardozza, Mrs. Joseph Marino, of Rye, and Mrs. Gabriel DeLuca of White Plains.
