Miller Parker Longbotham was born on November 28, 1908, in Brooklyn, New York, to Isabel R Franklin, age 27, and Bertram Longbotham, age 26. He was raised and educated in Brooklyn.

He married Marion B Gibbons in Rye Beach, New Hampshire, on May 15, 1937, when he was 28 years old. The couple had four children and in Rye, NY his family lived at 11 Mendota Ave.

Miller enlisted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served as a special agent in the U.S. Army Intelligence Group attached to the Manhattan District Project.

He and wife raised their family and lived in Rye for 35 years before moving to Nantucket, Mass. They moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1982. His wife died in 1986.

Miller spent his entire business career in the telephone system, beginning with the New York Telephone Co. in 1926. After 20 years, he transferred to the parent company, American Telephone & Telegraph Co. He retired in 1971 as personnel manager.

He was a former member of the Nantucket Yacht Club, the Pacific Club of Nantucket and the Manursing Island Club in Rye, where he served as governor. More recently, he was a member of the Sawgrass Club and the Ponte Vedra Club, both in Florida.

Miller Parker Longbotham, a retired telephone company manager and a former Rye resident, died Sunday at his home in Vicar’s Landing, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. He was 87.

At the time of his death, he was survived by three daughters, Margaret L. Moore of Virginia Beach, Va., Mrs. Robert L. Ficks III of Washington, Conn.,, and Gwen Longbotham of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Miller P. Longbotham Jr.
of Greenwich, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Donald Swanson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.
