Mainero, Philip J.

Description

Philip J. Mainero was born Feb. 4, 1915, in Rye to Lorenzo and Christine DeMurro Mainero. He had three sister Jennie, Lucy and Rose and a brother Alexander. In Rye his family lived at 41 High St and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Philip was educated in the Rye Public School System.

He enlisted on June 17, 1942, in New York City, New York. He was 27 years old. Philip was an Army Air Corps private first class in the European Theatre of Worid War II.

Philip was a member of a 12th Air Force B-25 Mitchell 310th Bombardment Group which received a War Department citation for “its part in destroying the Benevento marshalling yards with devastating effect”

The citation’ reads “Distinguishing themselves through extraordinary heroism and unswerving resolution the combat crews destroyed 18 of the attacking planes and bombed the marshalling yards with devastating effect. The gallantry and combat proficiency exhibited by the personnel of this group In striking this decisive blow has reflected the highest credit on their organisation and the Military Service of the United States”

He married Mary Constance Defilippo in November 1958 in Palm Beach, Florida.

Philip worked as a clerk at Rye Golf Cub for many tears and was a member of the Rye Triple-A.

Philip Joseph Maniero a lifetime resident of Rye and a clerk at the Rye City golf course died of an apparent heart attack December 5, 1965 at his home at 41 High St. He was 51

In addition to his father, he was survived by his wife Mary DeFilippo Maniero of the home address a brother Alexander of Rye and three sisters Mrs Joseph Lalla, Mrs Louis Verilli and Mrs John Russo all of Rye.

Philip was buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
