George Evan Mansell

George Evan Mansell was born on October 14, 1898, in Stamford, Connecticut, to Anna Geraghty, age 27, and George Mansell, age 31. In Rye his family lived at 11 Ridgeland Terrace

George served in both World Wars. In WWI he enlisted at FT Slocum , NY on February 19,1918 and served in the US Army Quartermaster Corps. He rose to the rank of sergeant and was overseas from June 30,1918 until September 29, 1919. He was honorably discharge December 12, 1919

Between wars George worked as an auto mechanic and was a trustee of the Rye Automotive Association.

He served as an officer in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. George was a Chief Petty Officer and Machinist Mate, First Class.

On March 3, 1945 his nephew, First Lieut. Paul A. Mansell, was among the sixteen victims of an Army transport plane crash in France. The plane was flying from England to Paris at the time of the accident.

After WWII, George married Catherine Elizabeth Green and they had two sons. He was employed as a pump mechanic with the John P. Harris Pump Co. of Port Chester for over 20 years

George Evan Mansell, Sr., 66, a resident of Rye for 50 years, died Friday September 30, 1966 at United Hospital, where he had been a patient for one day.

At the time of his death, he was survived by two sons, George Evan Jr. and Warren Bruce Mansell, both of the home address, and a brother, Allen, of Quaker Springs, N. Y.

Interment was in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N Y.
