Gregory Owen Miller was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 17th, 1933. Later, his family moved to Rye, New York. In Rye, he lived at 647 Milton Rd, with his mother Ann, her husband William Klingenberg, his older brother Douglas, and his older sister Sally. During the Great Depression, Gregory and his siblings were too young to work, so they all attended school. His mother was the head of the household and worked around the house, while her husband worked as a painter. He graduated middle school from Resurrection School along with twenty-seven other classmates in June of 1947. An active member of his troop, he received a special award from his scoutmaster for winning his Boy Scout Troop 1’s point system for the months of March and April in 1945. At the age of 14, he broke his arm and wrist on the Milton playground, leading to an impromptu visit to United Hospital. Gregory graduated from Rye High School in 1951. While at Rye High, he was nicknamed “Flusher,” and he participated in V.I.C. Gregory’s time at Rye was also defined by an interest in sports as he played Junior High Football and was a member of the school’s Sports Club. After he graduated, Gregory Miller enlisted in June, joining the Air Force. Four years later, he was discharged after proudly serving his country during the Korean War.

Gregory O. Miller MANAHAWKIN – Gregory O. Miller, 73, formerly of Titusville, died Tuesday at home.

Born in Detroit, MI, Mr. Miller grew up in Rye, NY and attended Rye High School. After school, Greg joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was active as a coach for both Little League Baseball and Hopewell Township soccer teams.

Greg was employed by the Dow Jones Company as chief pilot from 1960 to 1992. He retired to Manahawkin where he was an active member of the Old Guard #22 Stafford Stags. He enjoyed fishing, entertaining his grandchildren and dining out.

Son of the late Douglas and Ann Sheeran Miller, and brother of the late Douglas Miller, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Burgess Miller; two sons, Greg Miller of Media, PA and Tom Miller from North Kingston, RI; a sister, Sally Barnum of Chatham NY; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington. Friends may call Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Harbourton Cemetery, Harbourton.
