John Henry Mockler was born August 22. 1925, in Rye, New York to Martin Mockler, a WWI Veteran and Helen Torrence Mockler. He attended Washington Junior High School.

His mother died in 1936 when he was eleven years old. His father died in 1941 when John was just sixteen. He and his three brothers: Bernard M., Martin and Robert moved to Rye to live with their grandfather Martin Mockler Sr. In Rye his family lived on Forrest Avenue and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

John enlisted March 19, 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Private John J. Mockler, U. S. Army, is stationed at Norfolk, Va, He is in the Military Police, detailed to guard German prisoners of war at a prison camp in Virginia.
Inducted in May, 1943, he received his basic training at Norfolk. Twenty years old, he was born in New York City and attended Washington Junior High School,.

The U.S. Army Military Police (MP) Corps was formally established on September 26, 1941, to manage the rapid expansion of forces during World War II, playing critical roles in traffic control, prisoner of war (POW) management, and rear-area security.

After the war he was employed at the Westchester Country Club for many years. John never married.

John Henry Mockler, thirty-five, died Thursday January, 21,1960 in an upstate hospital after an illness of one year.

A requiem mass was held at the Church of the Resurrection. Interment was at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

At the time of his death he was survived by his grandfather, Martin Mockler Sr. of Rye, and three brothers, Martin Joseph of Armonk Village, Robert of South America and Bernard of California.
