Martin J Mockler was born December 11, 1898 in Manhattan, NY, son of Martin and Mary Malloy Mockler. His father was a coachman for a private family in Rye, NY. Martin was raised and educated in Rye and the family lived at 341 Forest Ave.

Martin enlisted at Ft Slocum, NY October 29, 1917 and served in the US Army in World War I. He fought in the battle of Chateau-Thierry assigned to Evacuation Hospital #6.

The 1918 Battle of Ch├óteau-Thierry was a pivotal World War I engagement (part of the Second Battle of the Marne) where American (2nd/3rd Divisions) and French forces halted the German Spring Offensive’s drive toward Paris. Fought from late May to early June 1918, it marked a significant, morale-boosting entry for U.S. troops into major combat, effectively ending the German advance.

Evacuation Hospital #6 was a key U.S. Army medical unit during World War I, located in Souilly, France, in 1918. Working alongside Evacuation Hospital #7 to handle casualties from the Western Front, it was strategically placed near road and rail lines to quickly receive, triage, and treat wounded soldiers.

Following the signing of the Armistice, he participated in the occupation Coblenz, Germany. He married Helen Terrance after his discharge from service and they would have four sons.

For 23 years he was employed by the New York Telephone Company. He made his home at 349 South Second Street, Mount Vernon, NY

Martin Mockler, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Mockler, 341 Milton Road, Rye, died August 27,1942 in Mount Vernon Hospital. He was 45 years old and a Mount Vernon resident. A former resident of Rye, he was pre deceased by his first wife Helen Terrance Mockler in 1936.

At the time of his death, besides his parents, he was survived by his second wife, Kathryne, four sons, Robert, Martin, Bernard M. and John. all of the Mount Vernon address and all who would serve in WWII: two sisters Lillian, Rye. and Katherine, New Fork City: twe brothers. Bernard, Rye, John. Great Neck, L. L.
