Description

LeRoy Arthur Patchen was born April 16, 1918 in Brooklyn New York to Frieda Lieber (Patchen), age 26, and Harry Patchen, age 28.

He was raised and educated in Brooklyn and he was a graduate of Madison High School. He had one brother and one sister. His family moved to Rye in the 1930’s and they resided at 44 Lynden St.

Leroy enlisted in U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was advanced to the rank of sergeant, at Hobbs Army Air Field, Hobbs, N. M. Hobbs Army Air Field was a WWII training base located near Hobbs, New Mexico, which is now the Hobbs Industrial Airpark.

Activated in 1942, the airfield was a pilot and mechanic training center under the United States Army Air Forces Air Training Command. It was one of only three U.S. bases that provided transition training for B-17 bomber pilots.

Sgt. Patchen, served with the 962nd Bombardier Training Squadron at Hobbs. He was honorably discharged after four years of service.

LeRoy married Miss Bertha Rosen on September 1, 1946 in Harrisburg, Pa. and they had one daughter. He was then employed with the Emco Porcelain Enamel Company, Port Chester.

LeRoy Arthur Patchen died April 24,1999.
