Alexander Rolland Peacock

Alexander Rolland Peacock was born Oct. 30, 1912, the son of Mrs. Gene Rolston Peacock and Clarence Peacock. A native of NYC, he lived in Rye most of his life. He attended Lawrenceville School.

On May 18, 1942, at the age of 29, he enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve in World War II. He served in the Army with the Counter Intelligence Corps.

The Army Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) was the United States Army’s primary intelligence agency during World War II, responsible for counterespionage, countersubversion, and security. Its agents deployed with combat forces and were instrumental in gathering tactical intelligence and neutralizing enemy threats both in the US and overseas.

The CIC’s mandate was to detect and prevent treason, sedition, and sabotage within and against the Army. In the United States, agents conducted thousands of loyalty investigations on military personnel and civilians with access to classified material.

After his honorable discharge, Alexander returned to Rye. He married Hazel J. Parsons November 5, 1948. The ceremony took place at the home of the bridegroom’s mother, 1154 Fifth Avenue, New York, and was performed by the Rev. Dr. Roelif H. Brooks,, rector of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Parsons, the former Hazel Ruth Jenckes, was the widow of First Lieut. Ralph P. Parsons who was killed while on active duty in Germany.

Alexander was well known for his philanthropic work as a manager of social agencies. His particular interest was the Little Missionary Day Nursery which maintains homes for children both in New York City and in Rye.

The Nursery was founded by his grandfather, the late Louis Rolston, and Alexander was president of the organization. His hobby was flowers, particularly orchids, which he exhibited in many shows. He was a member of the Apawamis Club for many years.

Alexander Rolston Peacock, 50, of Garden Corner, Island Road, Rye, died suddenly July 29, 1963 at United Hospital.

His mother was his only survivor.

Graham Funeral Home. The Rev.
Joseph P. Bishop, minister of the
Rye Presbyterian Church officiated
and interment was in Woodlawn
Cemetery, New York.
